What is Pulmonary Hypertension?

"High blood pressure in the arteries that supply the lungs is called pulmonary hypertension (PHT). The blood pressure measured by cuff on your arm isn't directly related to the pressure in your lungs. The blood vessels that supply the lungs constrict and their walls thicken, so they can't carry as much blood. As in a kinked garden hose, pressure builds up and backs up. The heart works harder, trying to force the blood through. If the pressure is high enough, eventually the heart can't keep up, and less blood can circulate through the lungs to pick up oxygen. Patients then become tired, dizzy and short of breath. If a pre-existing disease triggered the PHT, doctors call it secondary PHT. That's because it's secondary to another problem, such as a heart or lung disorder. Congenital heart disease can cause PHT. It's important to repair congenital heart problems (when possible) before permanent pulmonary hypertensive changes develop. Intracardiac left-to-ri

The Powerful Combination of Jujube, Ginseng and Honey

My daughter gave me a box of Red Ginseng Honey Jujube Tea which according to the food label came from Korea. It is not readable because it is written in Korean. :-( I have a lot of good things about ginseng but not really sure what to believe. About jujube, I must admit I am totally ignorant. So I did some research: 1."Red ginseng is Panax ginseng that has been heated, either through steaming or sun-drying. It is frequently marinated in an herbal brew which results in the root becoming extremely brittle. This version of ginseng is traditionally associated with stimulating sexual function and increasing energy. Red ginseng is always produced from cultivated roots, usually from either China or South Korea . In 2002 a preliminary double-bind crossover study of Korean red ginseng's effects on impotence reported that it can be an effective alternative for treating male erectile dysfunction . A study shows that Red ginseng reduces the relapse of gastric cancer versus control

What's the Rat year for a Snake?

I was born in the year of the Snake. And I am a Scorpion. Just for the fun of it, I looked over the web and found this astrological prediction for my snake sign. Intelligent and highly intuitive are two of the Snake’s many fine qualities. He makes an amusing and romantic friend with a definite flirtatious streak. When challenged or criticised he can be a sore loser. The Snake is very lucky with money and is fond of the odd bet or two. He is quick-witted and enjoys reading, music and occasionally the paranormal side of life. Forecast for 2008 The last couple of months of 2007 could have seen a real upswing in social activities for the Snake, leaving him feeling drained and just a little out of sorts. But all Snakes should take heart for the Year of the Rat will prove a very rewar ding and creative year for them – providing they think things through and take note of all possible opportunities that come along. In 2008 the Snake should take extra care in financial matters. Although very p

What's the Rat year for Scorpions?

For Entertainment Purposes Only BORN IN SCORPIO : Scorpio's symbols are the Scorpion, the Eagle, and Phoenix rising from the ashes. There is deep, intense energy here; energy that plummets the depths to find the answers to life. They are also concerned with death and see the transition as just another part of the experience; Scorpios have less trouble with death than any other sign. They make the best funeral directors because they have an objectivity that others don't. The sign of sexuality, Scorpios have been surprised in recent years that this strong sex drive has seemed to disappear, or at least be less focused. That part of the psyche is shifting once again, and all will be well. Many Scorpio/Pluto types used to control with sex; in recent years they've been controlling by not having sex.
