Look Ma Your Hair's Gray Too

I never noticed my graying hair until one of my sons called my attention to it. He said, "look Ma your hair's gray too like Lola's." Illness turned 50% of my hair to gray faster than usual :-( Sigh At first I refused to use what I considered toxic hair dyes. But the more I looked at the number of growing gray hair, the more I worried. Stress perhaps made it worse. I had no choice. But before this, a friend told me that one natural way of turning gray hair back to dark tint is to boil a substantial amount of potato peelings until it turns dark brown. Cool it down. Save the liquid for the next shampoo session - meaning use it as a conditioner. Afer shampooing pour it over the still wet hair and let dry. Do not rinse. I tried this several times but just won't do. These days, I have my hair dyed begrudgingly every 4 weeks. If I can help it every 6 weeks. My hair color now is a mixture of brown, dark brown, black, light brown and gray. Aarrgghh!

My Father's Guide Towards Good Eating

Papa was asthmatic. I used to bring him to the military hospital every time he had asthma attacks. The first time it happened, I was really scared. Young as I was, I thought he was going to die. He had difficulty breathing. Since I was the eldest, I was designated to massage his back to provide a little relief before my mother decides whether we were going to bring him to the medical dispensary or not. My mother told me that asthma attacks were such. Difficult, scary but that was just that. Nothing to be afraid of. I thought perhaps that was true. Because whenever he had his bouts, drinking his medication somehow relieved him. All that time, and in my young mind I realized the prospect of losing my father at an early age. But it was not to be so. My father lived till the ripe age of 75. And he didn't die from asthma or from any of its complications. He died from an overdose of anesthesia after a cataract operation. So what's the connection? Despite being asthmatic, Papa lived

I want to Learn to Teach English

It is never enough to be just on a Blood Presssure maintenance medication. This should be supplemented with the right kind of diet, exercise, and a stress free lifestyle. That is the way to maintain good artery and heart mascular health. But, I wonder if learning something new will bring stress to my lifestyle? Aside from blogging, I plan to learn a new skill. At my age? Why not. To speak a language is a skill, sure. But teaching it is a far more superior skill. A friend from way back has been teaching ESL. She's been living in Japan for the longest time and I think this is what she does there. Teach English. And I hear the pay is good :-)too. Tonight, as I am writing this post I encountered this blog by an esl online tutor. I am hoping he/she would give me tips on how to go about my plan. Cheers!

Feel good story from my email

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room ' s only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the c

Lessons Learned

The past few days gave me additional lessons from life: 1. One way of protecting yourself from the abuse other people dish out is by firmly telling yourself that you will no longer take garbage no more. This is it. The abuse ends here. Now! 2. Respect for oneself is the single most important ingredient to lead a happy and peaceful life. Without respect there can be no love, nor affection. 3. The most important gift a person can give you is time. Time to listen to you. Time to do things for you. Time to make little sacrifices. Time to sit down and give you words of encouragement. Time to make your existence a little better without necessarily spending a single cent.
